Create file task

Create file task makes a task that lives as its own note, a file task. It can start from where you are, so the same command serves a few situations.

What it does, by context

Where you run it What it does
On an inline task Turns that task into its own note, carrying its identity and fields
With text selected Starts the new file task from the selected text
No special context Opens the file-task template picker so you choose a template

In every case the new note is created from a file-task template.

When to use it

Reach for it when a task has outgrown a single line and deserves its own note with a body: a draft, a plan, or a thread with subtasks. If you are starting from scratch in the Task Creator, the File button does the same thing. See How to create a task with Task Creator.
